Urban noise & acoustic ecology
An essay explaining the consequences of noise in our society and some of the practical solutions suggested by the Acoustic Ecology movement. The work is available to download as a .doc file and it is written in Greek language.
Globalization & acoustic ecology
A short analysis touching the relations between globalization and acoustic ecology
...Therefore, Globalization in this context is an increasingly expanding economic system characterized by its connection to other global economies and countries through mostly the links of free markets, capitalism and communications. An array of economic and political decisions taken within this network can also change in various significant ways the shape of our societies and in extension our environment – sonic or not. Acoustic ecology is easier to perceived, as it is a simpler and clearer idea. It aims to our awareness towards the soundscape, and in extension the understanding, the responsibility and the gain of our respect towards these environments, ideally without affected by the listening point of this experience.
Home Studio Design
This is the Home Studio Design presentation as it has been presented in Pinakothiki, Chania - 23.05.09. It has been designed for the amateur musician who would like to setup a home studio from scratch. You will find information about computer hardware & software, sound-card options, additional external equipment, basic acoustics & soundproofing considerations and some example setups.
algorithic composition
For many centuries music composers, mathematicians and philosophers were fascinated by finding mathematical formulas as a method to explain and create music. Algorithmic compositions aroused from our natural need to enhance, facilitate, develop and further understand the process of music creation. It is a vessel that can transfer this process to a different domain, detached from our human physical constrains and limits. To be more precise, algorithmic composition is the application of an algorithm in the process of composing music.

sound synthesis
Several basic block diagrams examples explaining how to start making your own patches.
waveshaping synthesis
Waveshaping synthesis, also known as nonlinear distortion, has been first discovered at the Bell Laboratories by Jean-Clause Risset in 1969. Casio, the Japanese electronics company has first implemented a method of this synthesis in the CZ line synthesizers, generally known as Phase Distortion.
aural exciter
The Aural Exciter is an electronic device that with the appropriate use can enhance the quality of certain audio recordings. The first model on sale, the 402 type II, was first lunched back 1980 by Aphex U.S to deal mainly with a loss of sound quality in analogue recordings and playback. Very soon it gathered a lot of respect after used by many famous artists such as James Taylor, Fleetwood Mac and many others.
compressor
Compressors were introduced in music recording technology as a mean to help engineers cope with rapid sound level changes, especially when recording live music. A compressor balances the difference between the loudest and the quietest parts of a piece of music by automatically reduce the gain when a signal exceeds a predetermined level. The amount of reduction depends on the ratio set on the compressor.

additive synthesis
music business.com
Undoubtedly, the Internet has been heavily commercialized over the years and at the same time has been developed as an important tool in almost every part of our society. Therefore, its influence also into the music business is indisputable although its role is not yet completely clear and specified. A great concern is that the Internet is a mixture of many other digital technologies, all moving together so fast and in a non-linear way that is extremely difficult to predict the future. For the same reason, I believe is difficult to apply long term laws over it, thus it is also difficult to control it, although this is partly the subject of my debate. Moreover, through the analyses of the different relation involved within this medium, I will try to provide useful information about the current state of music on the Internet and some suggestions maybe for the future...
